Knowing and understanding your market is the first step in any marketing endeavor. Knowing and learning about your market&#8217;s attitude and habits is important to be able to employ the right marketing tools. For instance, if your market is a young audience then the correct marketing tools that need to be used are those that are relevant to this age range. Otherwise you are wasting time, money and effort in marketing tools that talk to a different age range altogether and you lose the opportunity to make a sale. While this concept is simple, the means to understanding your market can be complicated. For instance, again, in the case of marketing to children or a younger age group, you may find that your product is relevant to the market and target. When you have gotten your basics on target market and price down pat, it is then of utmost importance for you to be able to decide what is the proper medium and place for you to market your product or service. If for instance your target market is the upwardly mobile individuals who are dependent on their gadgets and are technologically savvy then it may be a good idea to utilize the correct marketing tools by using the Internet to market your products or services. If you do not use the correct medium of marketing, you may just be wasting your time and effort on broadcasting your message on deaf ears. Even before anything else, you need to make sure that you have the right product or service for the right target market. Make sure that what you are offering is relevant to your target consumer. Information on what they are doing right and what could use some improvement is vital to a businesses success. It is only with the correct data that a business can create a marketing plan or adjust the one they already have. For market research to be useful it must contain a detailed plan on the method that will be used to collect the information and how that information will be analyzed. This will ensure that there is applicable information that allows management to make the correct decisions. When the research is completed the resulting information is given to the marketing group or managers of the business. All of this information will aid the marketing team in creating the correct promotions and marketing strategies to gain the market share they are after.</p>
<p>The second type of research is called primary research. This is information that is generated through current sales and how the current marketing plan is working. The plans that the company is already working will be measured against the sales to determine if changes must be made. The effectiveness of competitors in the market is also analyzed and communicated with primary research. The second method of data collection is qualitative. This method uses one on one interviews to gather information about the personal beliefs and values that the user of the products has. This information is the basis of quantitative research.</p>
